Hair Maintenance

Hair Extensions Care
- Because hair extensions no longer receive nourishment from the scalp, it's essential to care for and nourish them properly. Use a professional, nourishing hair oil daily to keep your extensions in top condition
- On average, we lose between 100-150 hairs a day. Normally, these hairs stay in your brush, but with hair extensions, they remain in the attachment. This is not a problem, but can cause tangling if not properly maintained. To prevent this, it’s important to brush your hair at least twice a day with a brush designed specifically for hair extensions. If you wear our keratin flat tips, we recommend gently separating the keratin tips at the roots daily to avoid tangles
- The recommended wearing period for keratin tips is 3-4 months, and for wefts, it's 4-8 weeks. Since we lose 100-150 hairs a day, the natural hair to which the extensions are attached may thin over time. This can put too much strain on your natural hair, increasing the likelihood that your natural hair will fall out at the attachments. To avoid hair damage, we recommend having your hair extensions professionally removed and reinstalled on time.
- Never sleep with wet hair. Make sure your hair is completely dry before going to bed, and then tie it loosely in a ponytail or braid. This helps prevent tangling caused by friction on your pillow.
- Do you frequently wear sunglasses or headbands? Be cautious when pushing your hair back. Constantly touching the outside of the extensions can create pressure on your natural hair, which can irritate the scalp and even lead to breakage of your own hair.
- Going on vacation or to the beach? Sun, chlorine, and saltwater strip moisture from both your natural hair and extensions. Take extra care of your extensions with hydrating and nourishing products.
- In the Netherlands, we have soft water of high quality, but this is not always the case in other countries. Are you living abroad or on vacation? You may encounter “hard water.” The minerals in hard water can dry out the hair, making it more prone to breakage. This causes hair extensions to become dull, harder to comb, and more likely to tangle. Hard water can also cause the color to fade more quickly or develop a warmer hue. The minerals can react with the color molecules, leading to premature fading, spots, or even a pink/orange tint. What can you do? Use a detox shampoo to remove the minerals, hydrate your hair with a leave-in conditioner, use a nourishing mask more often, and rinse with filtered water if possible.
- Swimming or visiting the sauna is not an issue with extensions. However, we recommend securing your hair to prevent tangling. Brush your hair thoroughly after swimming and use a nourishing professional mask to hydrate.
- Are you going to the tanning bed or sunbathing outside? Cover your extensions as much as possible. Sunlight, sunscreen, and tanning beds can dry out your extensions and even cause discoloration. Make sure your extensions don't come into direct contact with sunscreen to prevent color change.
- Do you work out? No problem with extensions, but be sure to secure your hair to prevent tangling.
- It’s perfectly fine to style your extensions with heat tools like flat irons, curling irons, or blow-dry brushes. However, don't set the temperature of your styling tools higher than 180°C. Avoid direct contact with the attachments and always use a heat protector for the lengths and ends of the extensions.
- When washing your hair, make sure to rinse the products out thoroughly. Extensions add more hair, so it may take some getting used to. If shampoo isn’t rinsed out properly, it can cause buildup, which can irritate your scalp. Always divide your hair into sections when rinsing. If you're wearing wefts, split the sections during washing and gently massage the roots. Avoid pulling on the extensions, as wet hair is more fragile and you could cause damage.
- Removing hair extensions requires care and precision. To avoid hair damage, we always recommend having your extensions removed by a professional!
Hair Wig Care
Here are some essential care tips for Noir Hair wigs to maintain their longevity and quality:
- Gentle washing: wash your wig after approximately 10-15 wears, depending on usage. Use a mild, sulfate-free shampoo specifically designed for human hair wigs.
- Detangle before washing: gently comb through the wig with a wide-tooth comb, starting at the ends and working upwards to reduce shedding and prevent damage.
- Cold water washing: fill a basin with cold water, add a small amount of shampoo, and allow the wig to soak gently. Avoid rubbing or twisting. Rinse thoroughly with cold water to remove all shampoo.
- Conditioning: apply conditioner from the mid-lengths to the ends, avoiding the base of the wig to prevent loosening. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
- Deep conditioning mask: use a deep conditioning mask once a month to keep the wig hydrated and soft, especially if it is frequently exposed to heat styling.
- Drying: gently pat the wig with a soft towel to remove excess water. Preferably, let the wig air dry on a wig stand to retain its shape. Avoid blow-drying if possible to protect the hair quality.
- Heat styling: use a heat protectant spray before using styling tools such as flat irons or curling irons. Keep the temperature low and use heat only occasionally to extend the wig’s lifespan.
- Storage: store your wig on a wig stand when not in use, and keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain its shape and prevent tangling.
- Avoid sleeping with the wig: remove the wig before sleeping to reduce friction, which can cause tangling and damage.
- Protect from chemicals: avoid exposing the wig to chlorine or saltwater, as these can affect hair quality. Also, avoid harsh chemical treatments like coloring or perming unless performed by a professional.
Following these care tips will keep your Noir Hair wig looking healthy and beautiful, preserving its shine and softness for longer.
